International Flights

Burma used to be the Hub of air travel in South East Asia until the early 60s. Rangoon, Burma’s capital at that time was the best air port in South East Asia and all the major air lines like Pan Am, North West, KLM, BOAC, Air France etc operated direct flights to Burma. People from Thailand, Singapore etc who wanted to travel to Europe have to travel first to Burma to take the transit flight.
The situation change during the past half century. In the 1960s, Burma kept itself separated from international community and since then travel to Burma became less popular so most of the major USA and European air lines gradually stopped operating to Burma until there are not a single direct flight left operating to Burma from USA and Europe. Today, only air lines from the neighboring countries fly direct to Burma. People from Europe and USA have to travel to BKK or Singapore first to take a regional flight to continue their travel to Burma.

However, bad things do not always last forever so starting from 2002, Austrian air lines flied direct to Myanmar in winter as a chartered flight. That was and still is the only direct flight from Europe to Burma which makes travel to Myanmar easier than before. Nowadays, there are 16 online airlines in Myanmar as follow:
