- Telephone density in Myanmar is 0.6%. In urban areas, such as Yangon
and Mandalay the tele-density is 3.6% and 2.3% respectively.
- Myanmar Post and Telecommunication (MPT) is only one
telecommunication operator and is state owned.
Standardization
- Standardization of the Myanmar character code set has been
completed and approved according to ISO 10646 and UNICODE standard.
Currently, more than 50 fonts with various codes are in use in
Myanmar.
Initiatives
There are a number of projects and pilot projects underway
supervised by the e-Application Working Committee. E-Passport
Project
The project was rolled out in October 2002 for frequent
travellers and government officials. The e-passport was introduced
for authentication and access control with a biometric system using
an embedded chip. Internet and E-mail
Here in Myanmar, we have only two ISP (Internet Service
Provider); run by Government and Private Joint-Venture Company.

Who provided not only E-mail and Internet Service.
They provided dial up connection, Broadband Wireless Access, IP
Star Wireless Access. But most of the free e-mail such as yahoo,
hotmail, msn, aol --- etc can't access to log in.
www.bagan.net.mm There are several Internet Cyber café at Yangon, Bagan,
Mandalay, Inle some major Hotels. The cost might be 2 or 3 US $
per hour. Download speed may be not more than 10 Mbps.
